Barbara Hopkins is an artist based in New England.
BAHopkins’s creative practice uses a range of media, including metals, fiber arts, ceramics, printmaking, and watercolor painting. Her themes focus on textures, historical interpretations, and botanical interpretations. Barbara loves the outdoors and draws inspiration from her daily hikes with her pup, rowing on the river, and her large gardens and flowers. She connects with the earth daily and celebrates its beauty through her own voice. As a former chemist and educator, the studio is her lab, where experimentation delivers new pathways for artistic expression. She is a resilient maker, where one-of-a-kind pieces emerge and open doors to more investigations.
Her artwork has been exhibited in galleries around New England and in small shows from Connecticut to Maine and Vermont. Barbara is based in Maine, but can walk to New Hampshire at low tide. In 2020, she was awarded a Craft Apprenticeship Award with Jayne Redman as her mentor. Barbara has been an active leader supporting artists and regional vibrancy for more than 2 decades through the North Country Studio Workshops, the Southern Maine Clay Guild, and the Maine Crafts Association.
