Ceramics
I found my way into ceramics through metals. I was challenged by 3D forms and wanted to add more volume to my work. Clay became my exploration, and I loved how quiet it was! The chemistry of the firings, surface techniques, and glazes were so interesting to me as a scientist. Also, my life is partially grounded in the 17th century, so I was challenged in the replication of historical forms that were functional and dishwasher savvy. Hence, I focused my research and skill development in replicating old slipware and Delft-like designs. Recently, I built a soda/salt kiln so I could continue to learn, test out , and explore this ancient work. I have also begun combining smaller ceramic forms into my jewelry.
